Best Principal” Award and Certificate of Excellence at the International Conference

Gandhidham, Kutch:
In a moment of great pride for the Kutch district, Mr. Nikhil Ashokbhai Ashar, Principal of St. Paul High School, Gandhidham, was recently honoured with the National-Level “Best Principal” Award and Certificate of Excellence at the International Conference and Award Ceremony organized by Bal Rakshak Pratishthan, Maharashtra, held at Vanijya Bhavan, Vadodara.
Serving as Principal since 2013, Mr. Ashar has become a name synonymous with commitment, innovation, and compassion in the field of education. His journey from being a passionate student to an inspiring leader reflects his lifelong mission — to teach, transform, and empower young minds.
St. Paul High School, Gandhidham – Nurturing Values, Vision, and Victory
A Journey Rooted in Purpose
From as early as Class VIII, Mr. Ashar aspired to become a teacher. By Class XI, he had already begun conducting tuitions, driven by a simple dream—to help others learn. Today, under his leadership, St. Paul High School has grown from a primary institution to a full-fledged higher secondary school offering both English and Gujarati mediums.
Despite being located in a rural, migrant-dominated area, the school has stood out for its self-sufficient model of education. “Our students come mostly from lower-middle-class families who cannot afford private tuition,” shares Mr. Ashar. “We ensure that all academic support is provided within school hours itself. Learning should not be a burden, nor a privilege—it should be accessible to all.”
Empowering Through Education and Values
The success of St. Paul High School is a reflection of the trustees’ unwavering support, the teachers’ commitment, and the students’ hard work. With Mathematics and Science as his specializations, Mr. Ashar emphasizes that each child is “a gift of God—a diamond that simply needs to be understood and polished with care.”
His philosophy combines discipline with creativity and technology with traditional values. He firmly believes in using mobile technology for learning, especially for students who may not fully grasp concepts in class. “When used wisely, mobile phones can become powerful educational tools,” he remarks.
Leadership Beyond the Campus
Beyond his school duties, Mr. Ashar serves as the Quality Development Circle (QDC) Convener for the taluka, supervising 10 schools and overseeing HSC and SSC examinations as a Building Conductor since 2015. His leadership has fostered collaboration, quality improvement, and integrity in education administration across the region.
Voices from the Classroom
Prince, the school’s dedicated mathematics and accounts teacher, credits the principal’s mentorship for inspiring his own teaching journey. “Many students who once struggled have topped their classes through one-on-one concept clearing sessions,” he says. “We focus on understanding rather than rote learning. Real-life examples, especially in subjects like economics, make learning memorable.” Prince advocates for exam reforms that test comprehension instead of memorization, suggesting interview-based evaluations that assess clarity of thought.
Students, too, echo this sentiment. Tanisha and Vandana, students of Class XII, share, “When teachers are approachable and not overly strict, we feel more confident to ask questions. Here, education is not just about grades—it’s about learning values for life. We balance study and play, and that makes school enjoyable.”
Building a Legacy of Values and Excellence
At St. Paul High School, education is not limited to academics. The institution instils honesty, integrity, discipline, and problem-solving as life-long values in its students. “Our alumni should be known not only for noble careers but also for noble character,” says Mr. Ashar with conviction.
The principal’s vision, the management’s support, and the teachers’ dedication have collectively transformed St. Paul High School into a beacon of holistic education in rural Kutch — a school where every child learns, grows, and shines.
A Vision Rooted in Service and Sustainability
Founder-Chairperson and Managing Trustee Mr. Ravi Betty shared that the school’s philosophy is deeply rooted in social responsibility. “Education to the needy is synonymous with teaching them how to fish, rather than feeding them the fish,” he stated. According to him, the school’s growth from a primary to a higher secondary institution was driven not merely by expansion, but by the genuine demand and eagerness of parents and students who sought holistic development and academic continuity under one roof.
Mr. Betty further emphasized that the “no-tuition” approach stems from a spirit of social service ingrained in every staff member. The fee structure remains deliberately modest, especially when compared to institutions that impose multiple hidden costs. “This transparency and fairness have built immense trust with parents and the local community,” he noted. Reflecting on the school’s journey, he added with pride, “Our efforts are now bearing fruit. We see our alumni becoming doctors, engineers, and professionals in esteemed fields. This is the true measure of success.” He also revealed that the management plans to develop high-tech infrastructure for the science stream, ensuring students continue to receive world-class education within their hometown.
